I’m not 21 anymore and sadly, it shows. Take it from me, your early 20s catch up with you and I have the fine lines, acne scars and eye wrinkles to prove it. I was guilty of never wearing sunscreen and sunglasses outdoors. I had never used a moisturizer until I was 26. It hurt to type that.
It’s a whole different story now, I’m religious about my skincare and invest a lot more in skin products. You only get one face, right?
I have a few go to brands that I think are reliable, like a trusty best friend who will help you with any problem you get into, and Dermalogica is definitely on the list. Read on for my opinion on the Dermalogica products I’ve tried so far.
Firstly, always wear sunglasses when you’re in the sun. Less squinting in the sun means less lines around your eyes and hey, they make you look cool. Learn from my mistakes, young grasshopper.
I’ve been using the Ultrasmoothing Eye Serum for about a month, every night before bed, and under my concealer during the day. While the lines at the outer corners of my eyes have disappeared, I still have some fine lines in the under eye area, They are less visible than before and hopefully, I’ll see more results in time. The serum is from Dermalogica’s UltraCalming range so it’s gentle on my sensitive skin, and the tightening, cold sensation after I apply it makes me feel like it’s working. Unlike most of the eye treatments I’ve tried before, this serum absorbs very quickly without any greasiness.
Even though I have combination skin, I thought this was worth trying on the dry patches on my face, especially since winter is just around the corner. I was also intrigued by the fact that it has lycopene-rich tomato seed lipids because skin gurus always seem to go on about how amazing tomatoes are for your skin.
This is definitely better suited for dry skin because it’s super moisturizing, it was too much for my combination skin. It’s like a hard core moisturizing mask, brilliant for someone with dry, dehydrated skin or anyone who wants that glowy look, but if you have an oily t-zone, I would skip this.
This was the first Dermalogica product I ever tried, I’m still using the sample bottle and have heaps left. It’s the only exfoliator I willever use. Did you know those exfoliating scrubs with the beads/ grainy stuff actually do more damage to your skin, especially if you have acne? It makes sense when you think about it because those beads can feel harsh and they transfer bacteria from a zit to the rest of your face. Ew.
The Daily Micorfoliant is a rice-based powder that contains ingredients like salicylic acid and green tea which is great for acne. It’s gentle enough for daily use but I personally use it every other day because I’m lazy like that. The results are visible instantly- my skin feels squeaky clean, smooth and looks brighter. It’s also awesome for dull skin and pigmentation marks.
What’s not so great? It can be tricky to get the right consistency when you add water to the powder, I would recommend startling with very little product until you get the hang of it. Also, after I’m done, my skin feels tight so I have to follow up with a moisturizer.
I’ve only been using the Antioxidant Hydramist for a short time but I absolutely love it. This anti-aging toner is a part of Dermalogica’s Age Smart line which is designed to treat skin before aging signs can be triggered- perfect for twenty-somethings. Apart from hydrating and protecting the skin from aging caused by the environment, it also works as a setting spray for make up.
The toner feels a little sticky after you spritz it on but this is just for a few seconds. It hydrates without causing any greasiness and smells of a lovely combination of roses and cloves (as per the ingredients). The Antioxidant Hydramist is a beautiful product that I look forward to using every morning and night because it feels and smells so great. I suggest getting a sample size for your purse too, it’s lovely as a mid-day refresher!
