Let’s Talk Hair- An easy way to fix flat hair

An easy way to fix flat hair

I wish my hair would look the way it does on the first day of conditioning+ wash. It’s all shiny and bouncy and frizz free. Sadly, all of that disappears the next day. My hair turns a bit flat thanks to Dubai’s inferno weather and I can’t stand it- I can survive stretched out curls and even tangles, but not having big hair is just a big no-no for me.

So, every night, I tie my hair in a loose bun or “do the pineapple”. This makes sure I’ll have less frizz and tangles the next day as well volume at the roots.

To make sure that pineapple given volume lasts through out the day, I spray some Davines Hair Refresher on my scalp. It has a white residue so I have to rub it in a bit. It’s originally a type of dry shampoo that gets rid of a greasy scalp and neutralizes any smell. While it does those two things well, I mostly use it for it’s volume creating effect. I’m not a fan of sticky hair sprays or anything that adds weight to my hair, so this is a nice lightweight option that has my scalp feeling fresh and it smells lovely too.

I finish off with a little serum or argan oil to fix frizz, again they’re both light and won’t weigh down my hair.

And that’s pretty much it! Simple, no?

Oh that is some great advice because the second day my hair is so flat and I hate it. I use dry shampoo a lot to try to add volume but it doesn't last the whole day so maybe I'll try the bun at night plus the dry shampoo like you said! 🙂

  • the bun definitely makes a big difference for me, hope it works!

  • I can relate, whenever I wear my natural curls. My hair seems to get weighed down very easily if I put 'too much' product it in, and frizzes if I use too little, and the fronts don't curl as much (thanks to all the straightening), so I can't just wash and go. I've tried the bun at night many times, but all I get is 'straight' roots, a bump/wave/mark where the ponytail was put in, and then very very curly ends, so I end up washing my hair everyday anyway, just to get the curl and feel clean. In winter it's just easier and more convenient to blow dry straight, but in summer it's pointless as in the heat I sweat and it makes my hair curl – especially at the roots and along the front of my head. My second day hair is not flat though. It puffs out into a massive, glorious, messy frizz ball with tangles! I plan to keep growing my hair out. I guess I'll know next summer when I have no choice but to wear it curly, if I can figure out how work with my curls without weighing it down. That said, washing my hair each morning seems like so much less effort than anything else. As for dry shampoo, I once tried some one of my housemate had, which had an amazing smell to it. I do remember it making my hair look flat though – and hers. But as you know I love your hair, and I've inspired by you many times to just go with my curls, so I'll keep looking out for your curly hair tips. Girl with Curves also has amazing curly hair, and a few videos on how she takes care of her curls which are well worth checking out as well.

Love your hair! Nice tips 🙂 Where do you buy your Davines hair refresher from? Never seen that.
Do you apply anything after your hair wash to keep your curls?

I have a similar problem with my bob. its all straight and big and bouncy from the first day but the next day it's flat, flat, FLAT! where did you buy your davines products from? i've heard their shampoos are the bomb too!

  • I've never heard a bad review about any of their products, so they're definitely worth checking out. I think the Hair Refresher is perfect for yucky Dubai Summers, I actually carry it in my purse when I know I'm going to be out and about all day. They have a Davines Hair Salon here in Tecom and you can buy their products from a bunch of salons around Dubai, did a little snooping and found this list:

  • Thanks Insiya 🙂 After I wash my hair, I spray on some John Freida curling spray because it gives me tighter curls and I finish off with their thermal serum (the yellow one). Here's a list of where you can get Davines products from, they're also on Facebook if you'd like to contact them directly: https://www.facebook.com/DavinesUAE?fref=ts

    Hope this helps!

  • Have you ever tried John Frieda's curling spray? it was a lifesaver when I was transitioning from straight to curly and a lot of my friends with straight hair use it to get curls. I think if you wear your hair up in a loose bun and try spraying this, your hair might react differently. Plus, if you have curly hair, I think washing your hair everyday is actually more damaging and drying for your hair.
