Stop being such a girl, etc

June 4, 2012

  • For some reason, my online feed has had a number of headlines reporting rape, dress codes for women (and only women for some reason), and an endless list of slut shaming comments in reply (I really need to stop reading the comments section). Can we please stop blaming women? The problem is with the ignorance and the mentality.  The solution will never be to control women.

Never again will you let “like a girl” be used as an insult.

  • Curious to know if this is because they want to be healthier or because of the existence of fat shaming and discrimination. Actually, I’m pretty sure I know the answer to that.151081762469275395_8q2nHzd8_f

Love always,

  • I think this is a great post Weesha. If I start to talk about these things, I could go on & on & get very angry in the process. So thank you for sharing this.

The other day my brother told my husband that he ate like a girl. I am a feminist and abhor any type of this talk. My 8 year old daughter looked him square in the face and said, "And what is wrong with eating like a girl? What is wrong with being a girl? huh? ". Now he was just being silly with some banter with my husband, but my daughter was offended. I have taught her well! 🙂

  •  The other day my BFF told me how her husband was concerned with her 8yr old daughters eating.  He was worried that she ate too much and would become fat (BTW my 8yr old goddaughter is 50lbs).  My BFF laid into him so bad he was on the couch for 2 nights!  She wants her daughter to grow up feeling beautiful NO MATTER HER SIZE.  My BFF always tells me how beautiful I am and how she wishes she had my curves.  Thats what we should be teaching our children, not to conform to societial norms of "beauty".

my laptop seems to absorb my fury and keeps causing me a huge problem by crashing – i am enraged that in 2012 we are experiencing increasing levels of sexism and abuse – i am so mad i cannot explain eloquently my distress we are having massive issues against women -i feel the greater problems going on globally, women seem to be targeted more – i am so happy luanne that you raise awareness and continue to challenge this issue x

  • Hooray for a great post.  Have you ever read the Dances With Fat blog? I think you might enjoy it.

I recently found your blog. I think you are looking quite well. I love the fashion theme of the blog and your style and your hair but most of all I like that you post something like this. That you have an opinion and aren't afraid of showing it.If it would destroy a 12-year-old boy to be called a girl, what are we then teaching him about girls?” -Tony Porter

  • I honestly don't get the comments section of any of the social networking sites — youtube is the worst for nasty comments. I try to avoid them all together but sometimes I am like a moth to light. It's like people try to come up with the meanest thing they can say for no reason. And heaven forbid if you call someone out on their inappropriate behavior.
